The Use of a SMART Board in Teaching

The Use of a SMART Board in Teaching The funding of this grant would pay for the purchase of a SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard on a mobile floor stand for the Pace University School of Education Department. The SMART Board allows professors to include and integrate multimedia elements into lessons, such as videos and interactive demonstrations, as a result making lessons and lectures more exciting. Students will be able to hear, see and participate with the information they are learning for that particular course. The SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard system comes with Notebook software. This software provides a variety of tools to help differentiate instruction. By having a SMART Board, professors and students are able to write with a digital pen or with their finger, onto the SMART Board screen. Files from Notebook can be saved in different formats, printed, emailed or posted; therefore, giving students complete access to course materials. Essentially, anything that can be done on computers can be improved by having a SMART Board available. In the elementary and secondary levels, teachers are constantly trying to create lessons and activities that meet the needs of all learners. I think that at the high education level, this mindset gets lost. The majority of courses are lecture based with essays and written examinations. Because of this set up, I feel that college students loose their love of learning and attendance and participation in courses begin to drop. If a student was a visual learner in high school, he will still be a visual learner during college. The interactive whiteboard caters to all different learners because it incorporates images, sounds and stimulations. Students are able to see, hear and interact with what they are learning. Pace University needs more technology. Pace University has been looking for ways to increase their enrollment numbers, as well as retention rates. Installing and assimilating technology onto their campuses could be just one factor in accomplishing those tasks. As a former Pace University student ambassador and representative, I was constantly asked questions about the types of technology that are in the classrooms and what students are being exposed to. By having interactive SMART Boards on campus, I think these questions would be eliminated because you can physically see them. Pace University also has an entire school dedicated to Computer Science and Information Systems. I feel that by having technology seen in the classroom, will also nicely reflect the impact of that individual school on campus. The students at Pace University would benefit from the purchase of an interactive whiteboard in a variety of ways. Students will look at attending class as something exciting. Students will also gain a better understanding of the curriculum and concepts being taught, due to the assortment of tools and resources that the SMART Board has that can be incorporated into lessons. Pace University, itself, would benefit from having SMART Boards in campus because students will be working on their communication and technology skills for the 21st century, therefore separating themselves from graduates from other colleges and universities. Pace Universitys motto is Work toward Greatness. I believe that by integrating the use of an interactive whiteboard into different courses that Pace has to offer its students, professors will inspire their students more. The Pace University School of Educations motto is Creating reflective practitioners who promote justice, create caring classrooms and school communities and enable all students to be successful learners. I believe that the students within this school, specifically, will benefit tremendously from the interactive whiteboard. They will be exposed to a new technology that is widely being used in schools all throughout the United States. Students will be able to have an open mind when it comes to technology and integration in elementary and high schools. Not equipping these students with these skills would be harmful to their wellbeing. Todays world is filled with different types of technology, from cell phones to IPads. Students are constantly surrounded with technology throughout their daily lives, which only makes sense to have that same technology become a part of their education. 2. OBJECTIVES 3. ACTIVITY 4. MEASUREMENT To enrich and improve Pace Universitys programs and set of courses through interactive technology and technology integration. To encourage students to be independent critical thinkers and flourishing learners at the collegiate level. To increase student motivation, participation, achievement and success. To have students plan and conduct research, solve problems and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. To have future teachers become educated on a company and technologies that is regularly being used in school districts presently. To differentiate instruction for all students. To utilize the assigned course time in the most effective way possible. Assign web quests: Students will be encouraged to use Pace Universitys resources from the library, databases and reliable sources from the Internet. Students will use the research and technology available to them to help them decipher problems and answer questions. Interactive lessons: Students will actively engage within the lessons. Students will get out of their seats to participate and further their learning. Videos/Lectures: Teachers can embed videos clips that demonstrate the same concepts that are being taught in their course. Teachers can record notes from the course, save them and post/email them to students. Virtual Field Trips: Teachers can take their students on a trip during their assigned course allotted time. Presentations: Students can present their projects using the SMART Board in several ways: creating a NoteBook file, digitally creating it, recording their voices, etc. Exams/Reviews: Teachers can create games/activities that can help the students review concepts for examinations. Teachers can create examinations on the SMART Board. Workshop Session: Provide students with the opportunity to learn how to actually use the SMART Board. Students will be able to use the knowledge gained in their field placements and future jobs. Pre-course survey: Conducted on the first day, asking students about their interest in the course, predictions of their participation throughout the course, grade and end of course experience. Post-course survey: Conducted on last day, asking students about their understanding of the course material, if they were successful in the course, if they enjoyed the course, would they recommend the course and impact of technology used in the course. Informal assessments: Teacher observation, student journal entries/blogs on the topic of use of the SMART Board. Formal assessments: Lessons/lectures/activities can be video taped. Samples: Student work samples will be saved to be included in a portfolio. Attendance Preparation Participation Behavior

Womens Real Life Problems in Thelma and Louise and Shirley Valentine E

Women's Real Life Problems in Thelma and Louise and Shirley Valentine Throughout the history of film actresses have always received the worst roles in which to portray women. Women are often featured as lovers or prostitutes, backstage roles that support the power and domination of men. Hollywood has always been dominated and ‘run’ by the influence of male actors and directors. Statistics have shown that 71% of male actors are given major roles compared to women who receive only 29% of centre stage roles. Thelma and Louise and Shirley are two films, which change that. They portray woman in a positive role, showing them in a positive light against male oppression. Although Shirley Valentine is a British film and Thelma and Louise is American, both films still show women facing the prejudice of society in the 20th century. In this way women viewers can relate to the films believing them to show the difficulties women face in life, the loss of women’s individuality due to the domination of their husbands and their experiences of sexism and prejudice in modern day society. There are many similarities as well as differences in both films and the storylines are varied, yet both films still feature woman who overcome the typical stereotype that they are nothing but sexual objects for men to abuse. Thelma and Louise a road film featuring two women who are trying to run away from the law because Louise has shot a man who was trying to rape Thelma. Throughout their journey they go on a quest of self-discovery realising the mistakes they have made in life and finding their true identity among the ravages their partners have made ... ... were losing. Therefore I believe both films are successful in presenting stories from a women’s viewpoint on the real life problems women face. Both films are realistic and can be compared to the lives of many women in the same situations. These films allow women to relate to the characters and experience emotions on issues that they have faced throughout history such as rape and sexism. They allow women to feel a sense of hope and to make them understand that they are individuals who must fulfil their dreams. Shirley Valentine and Thelma and Louise allow women to overcome stereotypical images of ‘housewives’ and ‘sex objects’ and present women as strong with their own individual characters. In this way both films are successful in showing the problems and issues women face and overcome from a female perspective.

First Day in School: Growing Out of Dependency Essay

Looking back on a childhood filled with events and memories, I find it rather difficult to pick on that. It leaves me with the fabled â€Å"warm and fuzzy feelings†. As a kid who grew up from another country, I had a pleasure of learning different language and culture. I have to learn both Filipino and English. However, I have discovered that when reflecting on my childhood, it is not the difficult learning that come to mind, instead there are details from everyday doings; a deck of cards, a silver bank or an ice cream flavor. One memory that comes to mind belongs to a day with particular importance. It was my very first day of school. Learning something new can be a scary experience. The first 4 years of my life was spent at home mostly with my parents who were there every step of the way. My day started with a hearty breakfast prepared by Mom, who would patiently cook eggs, fried rice and spam. All of us would rush to the table and get ready for the day’s school or work. After breakfast, I would be the last child left behind with Mom. For 4 full years, my life was comfortable. It consisted of a routine, a structure of dependency which meant I didn’t have to worry about what to wear, when to eat and what time someone was going to give me a bath. It was 4 years built on knowing that my loving parents were there to protect me and my selfless siblings were there as well to pamper me, being the youngest in the family. Then one day, thinking that the morning was going to be how it’s always been, I thought wrong. Mom told me I was going to school. I initially thought, it was going to be fun, to be out of the house and break from the routine for a change. However, as soon as I got to the school in the midst of total strangers, I found my world crumbling. I tugged nervously at Mom and looked at her to say, this was not the place I want to be. She tugged back with confidence and escorted me to my classroom with my new teacher welcoming me with a smile along with the rest of the kids in the room. I remembered crying hard for the first time in my life as if my Mom was abandoning me for the rest of my life. What seemed to be the first 10 minutes felt like an eternity. My first day of school was a realization that my sheltered years of being around my parents and siblings are over. It signaled the day when I realized that my dependency on my family was over. It made me understand that at that very moment, I had to learn to be on my own, make friends with people I barely know and learn to stand up for myself. Before the day was over, it made me realize that there was something to look forward to when school was over. It was scary to be on my own for the first time. However, I found comfort in the fact that Mom would rescue me from the melancholy experience of my first day in school.

Abortion is a right choice. essays

Abortion is a right choice. essays We live in a nation built on the idea of freedom, freedom of choice and freedom of expression, yet we are not free. After all, different people have different attitudes toward abortion. Like wise, the oppositions of society create constricts for women seeking abortions. They maintain that since the unborn child in the womb is a human life, abortion is a kind of guilt, which deprives of a human right to life. Certainly, they go on to point out that abortion should be banned by the law in order to protect these human lives. Of course, the main questions that everyone must face are which areas of behavior to leave to private choice and which to regulate in the interest of virtuous. However, abortion is a very serious and complex issue. This issue will not just end with laws. Therefore, the fact of the conflict is not being concern of its legal status abortion is still going to exist. Notably, still have women who are going to seek them with the help of men to arrange them. Moreover, wit h the doctors and some not qualified who will still perform them. It cannot be denied, this is reality because before 1973 a lot of women died from illegal abortions. Currently, abortion is legal, however, if histories were to repeat itself, and abortions are considered illegal once again, the results would be appalling. Not only would women turn to insalubrious secretive abortions and self induced abortions, the psychological pain and scars would be considerably more awful than those of a legal abortion. In a word, every woman is permitted to the right of privacy in dealing with her own body if women are to be denied this right, history will repeat itself jeopardizing the lives of millions of women. Formerly, legalizing abortion will guide women to have safe conditions, with qualified doctors and proper care. By the same reason, if abortions were no longer an option, womens health issues would arise. Even though, the government will still be able to ...
